| The term
'Fifth wheel' is used to describe an articulated trailer which is
used in conjunction with a light weight pick-up vehicle. Fifth wheel
recreational vehicles have been used in the USA for many decades. Using
and benefiting from their experience, we can now enjoy fifth-wheeling
here in the UK. The concept is based on an articulated hitch which
provides a solid, sure attachment between vehicle and camper trailer. In
short, the unit drives like one vehicle, with none of the swinging or
fishtailing associated with conventional drawbar trailers or caravans.
Coupling is easy which means you can hitch or un-hitch in minutes with
virtually no manual effort, while the hitch plate is easily removed from
the Pick-up vehicle leaving the bed free. |
